LONDON HOTELS OF CHARACTER, DISTINCTION AND CHARM
LONDON HOTELS OF CHARACTER, DISTINCTION AND CHARM:
A guesthouse since 1927, this hotel was taken over by the current owners 19 years ago. They have recently refurbished the elegant Victorian building to the highest standards. We found it pleasantly decorated and furnished and extremely good value for money. Staff and proprietors gave us a warm welcome and we found them friendly and helpful.
Situated in a quiet residential street in West Kensington, the hotel is about 15 minutes by taxi from the West End. From the reception, we were shown through into the breakfast room and bar, which is decorated in soft peach and limed oak. There were pretty posies of dried flowers on all the tables. The proprietor also offers free tea and coffee all day long, and this can be taken downstairs. We enjoyed full English breakfast with fellow residents, and the proprietor introduced us all to each other, ensuring a friendly atmosphere and lively conversation.
The bedrooms are decorated in peach and blue and our beds had attractive scatter cushions. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms. The bathrooms are tiled in blue, peach or green and fitted with strong showers, sometimes in a separate cabinet. Most rooms have baths and showers. The Avonmore Hotel has won the AA National Award for the best private hotel in London, which came as no surprise to us. It is very popular with business travellers as well as tourists. We were particularly impressed by the care the proprietor took to make guests feel at home; on one occasion we noticed her take out a map and sit down to explain some detail of London geography to a stranger to the city.
